Part-time Evening M.Ed for Working Teachers

You will be prepared to lead your school as a reading specialist/literacy coach, K-12, after completing the Master of Education with a concentration in reading at Mount St. Mary’s University. The Mount’s program equips you to plan for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

The acclaimed M.Ed. program is also recognized for:

  • Classes designed for working adults. Attend part-time evening classes at campuses in Frederick and Emmitsburg.
  • National recognition by the International Literacy Association.
  • Accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Graduates of the program are eligible for certification as a reading specialist, K-12, from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

The program will cover literacy assessment and intervention, reading in secondary content areas, and literacy instruction for culturally and linguistically diverse and neurodiverse students. Courses will also cover how the reading specialist plans and delivers research-based professional development workshops for colleagues and communicates data-driven decisions with K-12 learners, their parents, colleagues and policy makers.

Complete the form to schedule a detailed transcript analysis or to connect with an advisor.

M.Ed study tracks also include a concentration in instructional design and technology and a program in instructional leadership.
