Part-time Evening M.Ed for Working Teachers

You will be prepared to lead your school as a reading specialist/literacy coach, K-12, after completing the Master of Education with a concentration in reading at Mount St. Mary’s University. The Mount’s program equips you to plan for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

The acclaimed M.Ed program is also recognized for:

  • Classes designed for working adults. Attend year-round, part-time evening classes at campuses in Frederick and Emmitsburg.
  • National recognition by the International Literacy Association.
  • Accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Graduates of the program are eligible for certification as a reading specialist, K-12, from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

The Master of Education program is for certified teachers who hold a bachelor’s degree in education. Candidates are seeking the professional role of reading specialist/literacy coach in grades K-12.

Admissions requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education with a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Current valid teaching certification
  • Successful completion of admissions interview
  • Prerequisite courses may be required
